Here’s my favorite strategy that I teach my clients about starting to own their voice.

I want you to think about your next meal out that you haven’t planned yet, and identify what you want to eat.

It’s simple, and it’s effective because it shows you how you have trained your brain to defer to other people’s thoughts before your own.

If you always ask other people what they want to get, or you say, “whatever you want is fine by me,” this is for you.

You can re-train your brain. But you have to start by understanding you HAVE preferences, and then identify them.

So start with something you already care about, like your next meal out.

Then the next key step is to say it.

For your next date with a friend, tell them what you’d like to have. Say to them: I was thinking Thai food sounds so good tonight. What do you think?

Because you’re not here to say my way or the highway, you’re choosing to practice stating your preferences.

The more you do this, the more you’ll discover that you DO have preferences.
