The moment I stopped trying to be the perfect empl The moment I stopped trying to be the perfect employee, my leadership visibility changed.

For years, I thought success meant:

❌ Working longer hours
❌ Making everyone happy
❌ Waiting for my results to speak for themselves
❌ Constantly adapting to what other people needed

And while those behaviors earned trust, they didn't create authority.

What finally changed things was:
✅ Sharing what I actually thought
✅ Trusting my own perspective
✅ Letting my experience carry weight
✅ Recognizing when cultural conditioning was keeping me small

Many Asian-American women have been taught that hard work, humility, and reliability will naturally lead to recognition.

But at a certain point in your career, those same strengths can quietly keep you stuck as the person who executes instead of the person who leads.
The goal isn't to be perfect.

The goal is to be experienced as leadership.

If you've ever been told to speak up more, be more strategic, or show more executive presence, comment SHIFT and I'll send you access to The Authority Shift, my free private audio series.
You think overanalyzing feedback shows dedication. You think overanalyzing feedback shows dedication.

Your boss may see something very different.

They may see hesitation.
Self-doubt.

Someone who doesn't trust their own judgment.

One of the biggest protective patterns I see in high-achieving Asian American women is replaying every piece of feedback, every meeting, and every decision, trying to figure out how to get it "right."

I know because I used to do it, too.
As a journalist, I'd obsess over edits until late at night, convinced that if I worked harder, I'd finally earn approval.
Then one day, my editor said something that completely changed how I saw myself:

"You have no voice."

It stung.

But eventually I realized the problem wasn't that I lacked talent.

I'd spent years learning how to meet other people's expectations instead of trusting my own judgment.

Many of us were raised to value hard work, humility, and getting things right.
Those qualities got you to where you are now.

But in leadership, you're not evaluated by how carefully you analyze feedback.

You're evaluated by how clearly you think, how confidently you make decisions, and how you show up when the pressure is on. If you find yourself replaying conversations, second-guessing every decision, or constantly wondering if you're doing enough, you don't have a feedback problem.

You have an authority problem.
And that's something you can change.

Comment SHIFT and I'll send you my free private audio series on the hidden leadership dynamics shaping how you're perceived at work.
