You think boundaries are about keeping people out.

You think they are about walls, saying no, and being rigid.

When boundaries, at their heart, are about being more connected.

Take your family as an example.

Is it better to spend 10 days with them, and feel resentful and exhausted by the end because you overdid it and you’re tired of their shenanigans?

Or would it serve you more to spend 5 fulfilled, present, and happy days with them?

The same goes for work.

Is it better to be angry, pissed off, and emotionally reactive because you’re working 10-hour days and you’re not doing even close to your best work?

Or would it actually serve you (and your colleagues) if you were rested, content, and happy to do what you’re doing?

As an Asian-American, saying no was not part of my vocabulary.

I always went above and beyond to prove my worth and value, whether it was at school or in my work.

Which meant I was continually burned out and exhausted.

But then I learned there was a NEW way.

Which included 5-hour work days, breaking through to the next level in my career, and setting rock-solid boundaries.

Things you “thought” were corporate culture...

➡️Working until midnight.
➡️Always saying yes (when you want to say no.)

This one daily shift has been a total GAME CHANGER

This one daily shift has been a total GAME CHANGER in my work-life balance.

But before I share it, there’s something to understand first.

In order for me to have actual balance in my life, I first had to understand what was causing me to drive so hard that doing things for myself felt uncomfortable.

I had to see the cultural barriers from growing up Asian-American.

👉🏼Where As were the only acceptable grade.
👉🏼Where my extracurriculars were going to impact where I got into college
👉🏼Where my college was going to dramatically alter the course of my life.

I had to give up the idea that the collective was more important than me, the individual.

That my emotional well-being was actually more important than my work, my family, my friends.

Once I got that, that’s when I could implement taking 30 minutes or more a day for me.
👉🏼 Taking a walk with my dog, phone-free.
👉🏼Reading a book at night (and not working)
👉🏼Going to yoga at 4:30 p.m.

I have seen the impacts of these practices

👉🏼 More creativity
👉🏼 A softer approach to my work
👉🏼Feeling spacious no matter how much I have to do
